Swan Valley Distillery Trail: A Walk Through of Award-Winning Shots

The Swan Valley is most known for being Western Australia’s oldest wine region with over 40 wineries, breweries, and cideries. It’s also home to critically acclaimed, dedicated distilleries and the famous Swan Valley Distillery Trail that will let you experience different distilleries in less than a day.

This trail showcases a wide range of spirits such as gin, vodka, brandy, and rum coming from its 5 top distilleries on the site. This includes Old Young’s Distillery, Harris Organic Wine and Spirits, Swan Valley Gin Company, Sin Gin Distillery, and Great Northern Distillery.

In this list, we’ll walk with you down the trail with a guide to what awaits in these distilleries.

Old Young’s Distillery

Australian Champion Distiller 2017, Australian Distilled Spirits Awards Champion Vodka 2016 and 2017, and American Distilling Institute Craft Spirits Awards Best International Vodka – these are just some of the awards that testify to the greatness of spirits offered at Old Young’s Distillery. Established in 2016, the distillery is quite young compared to other distilleries in the region, but despite this, they were able to take the valley by storm with local and international awards for vodka and gin.

These handcrafted spirits are mixed with traditional and new flairs brought together to come up with some of the best spirits. Every day of the week, the distillery will be open to allow you to sample a full range of vodka and gin. Make sure you don’t leave without trying their award-winning Six Seasons Gin, Common Gin, and Pavlova Vodka.

Harris Organic Wine and Spirits

Harris Organic Wine and Spirits is Perth’s only certified organic winery and the country’s only certified organic brandy distillery. With a two-hectare organic vineyard, the distillery produces red, fortified, and sparkling wines with little to no additives and preservatives – that means, no pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers are being used in planting, pruning, picking, and fermenting the grapes.

Head on to the cellar door past the free-range chickens and don’t miss your chance to try Harris Organic’s Brandy, Vodka, and Moonshine, and Gin.

Swan Valley Gin Company

Within the Pandemonium Estate, you’ll find the boutique distillery Swan Valley Gin Company surrounded by vineyards and sporting a range of its most popular Diablo gins – a perfect combination of mandarin, cumquat, local strawberries, and local native botanicals in the Saltbush and Mediterranean Gin.

Modeled after the gintonerias in Spain, Swan Valley Gin Company produces its distilled wine with Spanish grape varieties including Tempranillo, Grenache, and Muscats. Try their gin tastings in the Spanish-inspired gin bar – The Gintoneria, where you can sip on gin while gazing at the vineyard from the cellar door, and while grazing on cheese, tapas, or gin-inspired wood-fired pizza.

Sin Gin Distillery

It may be a nano small distillery, but Sin Gin is indeed among the rosters of giant distilleries in the Valley. Since it opened in 2016, Sin Gin has already produced best-selling and award-winning spirits like the Original Sin and Australian Aquavit. Its famous Seven Deadly Sins Range is the most popular which will have you choosing from Pride, Lust, Sloth, Envy, Greed, Gluttony, and Wrath.

Taking space at the center of 60 market stalls at the Swan Settlers Market, Sin Gin Distillery holds a perfect location to sample spirits after walking through booths selling food, fresh produce, and vintage artisan wares.

Great Northern Distillery

Great Northern Distillery is Western Australia’s most awarded Rum Distillery with its famous The Kimberley Rum Company and Canefite Rum. Since its inception in 2006, Great Northern Distillers have already mastered the art of spirit tasting and providing premium barrel-aged rum, gin, vodka, and delectable liquors.

If you seek a tipple of refreshing mojito, tonic, or rum, then this is a perfect time to sit in the courtyard and enjoy some high-quality taste in bottles.
